Library at Pathseekers, is truly an integral part of teaching & learning processes and inculcates desirable study habits in students. It promotes curiosity, innovation, love for reading and critical thinking among children. To inculcate reading habit, every child, right from preparatory school is exposed to the gigantic world of books.
The school has spacious and separate Libraries for Pre-Primary and Primary Sections, both well stocked with around 12000 books. It has sections ranging from text and reference books to fiction and general knowledge and covers a wide range of books like - Fairy Tales, Little Adventure Stories, Fables, Graphic Novels, CBSE recommended story books, Classics, Story books in Hindi & Punjabi, Games, DVD’s etc. It is equipped with array of encyclopedias, dictionaries, biographies and non-fiction books to delight the unending quest for knowledge. Two Newspapers (daily) and around Fifteen Magazines (weekly & monthly) in English and Hindi are also available to widen children’s interests and extend their mental horizon. Soul Software is being used to automate all operations in the Library.
A separate library lesson has also been assigned to teachers where they visit the school library and update themselves with the latest research and developments in their respective subjects.
Book Bank
There is a well-stocked Book Bank which houses approximately 3000 books. Children can access various genres from Action, Adventure, Classics, Graphic Novels, Mystery, Fantasy, Historical Fiction, Horror etc.
In-class Library
Besides this, Children from Infant Stimulation to Grade V have their in-class library with a collection of around 35 story books each. Books are carefully picked, suited to their level of understanding and kept in the classroom to develop a certain level of language proficiency.
Reading Activities
Every year, Library Week is celebrated in the month of November. Various activities are taken up during the Library lessons. These include writing stories, role plays, designing one’s favourite book cover, making bookmarks, etc. During this week, children narrate summaries and reviews of books. They also narrate moral based stories, recite poems, explain library related terminologies, give speech on the benefits of reading and talk about prominent authors.
Another activity organised on a daily basis to develop a reading habit, is DEAR Time (Drop Everything and Read), when every individual, right from the Head of the Institution to teaching & non-teaching staff members, drop everything and take up reading for the specified time period of 20 minutes.
